What Danielle loves

"I love learning new things, embodying them, and helping others learn. Last year, I got a swim coach to learn how to swim. The other day, one of the coaches asked me to share my swim lane with an 11-year-old girl who was panicking about the water during her group lesson. So, the two of them came into my lane. He was helping her overcome that moment, and there we were: two learners and a master. Although I didn't look like a learner as an adult, with my cap and goggles, I could relate to her panic as it wasn't long ago that I experienced the same thing.

Our eyes met when she said, “I can't do this,” and student to student, I looked at her and said, “You got this.” With determined inhale, she replied, “I got this.” From there, she swam the entire lane backstroke with the coach watching her. Her parents greeted her at the end, and as she returned, our eyes met again. I celebrated with a cheer, and she gave me a little smile before she, her parents, and the coach returned to their group."
